At JamTransfer.com, we understand Greece's unique beauty and island character:
Skiathos Island Character: Unlike typical barren Greek islands, Skiathos is lush and green with Aleppo pine forests covering hills. The island (12km long, 6km wide) has over 60 beaches, most accessible only by boat or hiking. The island is expensive by Greek standards but offers excellent beaches, good infrastructure, and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Very popular with British tourists - English widely spoken. Peak season (July-August) extremely busy with high prices. The island has strong winds (meltemi) in summer - excellent for sailing but can be too strong for beach comfort.
Beaches: Koukounaries Beach (12km from town) is Greece's most famous beach - golden sand, shallow turquoise water, pine forest backdrop, very crowded in peak season. Lalaria Beach (north coast, boat-only access) features white pebbles and dramatic rock formations. Banana Beach (south coast) is long sandy beach popular with young crowds. Most beaches have beach bars, water sports, and lounger rentals. Many small coves accessible by boat taxi from main port.
Skiathos Town: The island's only town (2km from airport) is charming with red-tiled roofs, narrow streets, two harbors (old port and new port), numerous restaurants, bars, and shops. The town becomes very lively at night with bar scene. Bourtzi peninsula separates the two harbors with pine trees and cultural center.
