At JamTransfer.com, we understand Greece's unique beauty and island character:
Lefkada Island Character: Unlike most Greek islands reached by ferry, Lefkada is connected to mainland by causeway and floating bridge - easy access by car. The island combines mountain villages, lush eastern coast, and dramatic western cliffs with spectacular beaches. Less developed and more authentic than Corfu - excellent for those seeking beauty without mass tourism. The island is popular with German, Austrian, and Italian visitors but relatively undiscovered by British/Americans. Good infrastructure, English widely spoken.
Porto Katsiki Beach: Consistently ranked among Greece's top 5 beaches (40km southwest of Lefkada Town, 50 minutes), Porto Katsiki features white cliffs, white pebbles, turquoise and deep blue water, and dramatic beauty. The beach is accessed via 100+ steps down cliff (challenging return climb). Parking above can be difficult in peak season. The beach is spectacular but crowded July-August - arrive before 11am or after 4pm. Strong winds possible. Despite challenges, Porto Katsiki is absolutely stunning and worth the visit.
Egremni Beach: Another spectacular beach (35km southwest) with similar characteristics to Porto Katsiki - white cliffs, turquoise water, white sand/pebbles. Damaged by 2015 earthquakes, access is now by boat from Nydri or Athani village. The beach is quieter than Porto Katsiki and equally beautiful. The area also features Gyra Beach and other hidden coves accessible by boat.
Lefkada Town: The island's capital (bridge access from mainland) features charming pedestrian streets, colorful buildings with traditional architecture, waterfront promenade, lagoon views, churches, and good tavernas. The town is pleasant but not spectacular - the island's main draws are natural beauty and beaches. The eastern coast near town has calm beaches suitable for families and water sports (windsurfing at Vassiliki, kitesurfing at Myloi Beach).
