At JamTransfer.com, we understand Greece's unique beauty and island character:
Myrtos Beach: Consistently ranked among Greece's most beautiful beaches (30km north of Argostoli), Myrtos features dramatic white pebbles, electric turquoise and deep blue water, and towering cliffs. The viewing point above on the coastal road offers breathtaking photo opportunities. The beach is spectacular but note: pebbles not sand, deep water close to shore (not ideal for young children), occasional strong currents, and no natural shade. Despite this, Myrtos is absolutely stunning and worth visiting - arrive early or late to avoid midday crowds.
Melissani Cave and Drogarati Cave: Melissani Cave (28km from Argostoli) features an underground lake in a collapsed cave with opening to the sky. Boat tours take visitors on the turquoise water with spectacular light effects (best 12pm-2pm when sun is directly overhead). Drogarati Cave nearby has impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Both caves require tickets and can be visited in half-day trip.
Assos and Fiskardo Villages: Assos (36km northwest) is a picture-perfect village on a narrow isthmus with pastel-colored houses, Venetian castle ruins above, and small pebble beach. Very charming and photogenic. Fiskardo (50km north) is the only Kefalonia village that survived 1953 earthquake intact - traditional Venetian architecture, upscale restaurants, yacht marina, and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Fiskardo is expensive but beautiful - popular with yacht crowd and celebrities.
Argostoli Town: The capital (9km, 15 minutes) was rebuilt after 1953 earthquake in modern style. The town features lively waterfront promenade (Lithostroto), Koutavos Lagoon with turtles, Vallianos Square, museums, and excellent tavernas. Argostoli is functional base but less charming than smaller villages. The town has supermarkets, pharmacies, and services for self-catering accommodation.
