At JamTransfer.com, we understand Greece's unique beauty and island character:
Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach): Greece's most photographed beach (32km from airport, northwest coast) is only accessible by boat. The stunning cove features white pebble beach, turquoise water, towering white limestone cliffs, and a rusting shipwreck from 1980 smuggler vessel. Viewing platform above (accessible by road from Volimes village) offers spectacular photo opportunities - arrive early morning to avoid crowds. Boat tours depart from Porto Vromi, Skinari Cape, or around the island. The beach is small and extremely crowded in peak season - consider visiting by private boat early morning or late afternoon.
Blue Caves: Located at island's northern tip near Skinari Cape, these natural sea caves feature brilliant blue water created by light reflection. Accessible by boat tours - small boats enter the caves for swimming in electric-blue water. The caves are spectacular in morning when sunlight is optimal. Combined boat tours visit both Blue Caves and Navagio Beach.
Sea Turtles and Laganas Bay: The southern coast's sandy beaches are nesting grounds for endangered loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta-Caretta) May-October. Laganas Bay is protected marine park - boat tours observe turtles (morning best time). Gerakas and Dafni beaches are major nesting sites with restricted access at night. Laganas town (8km from airport) is the island's party capital with clubs, bars, and British youth tourism - very different from island's natural beauty.
Zakynthos Town: The capital (4km, 10 minutes) was rebuilt after devastating 1953 earthquake that destroyed most Ionian island towns. The town features waterfront promenade, St. Dionysios Church (island's patron saint), Venetian castle ruins with panoramic views, Museum of Solomos with Byzantine art, and lively town square. The town is pleasant but less charming than Corfu Town due to modern reconstruction.
